I've been making so many new items lately, and the ideas are never ending! I wish there were more hours in the day so I could make more and more. Being a stay-at-home mother of two little ones is always challenging when it comes to time management. I love having my own little "business." Every time I see that I made a sale on Etsy, I am so proud and happy. It is very encouraging for someone who learned how to crochet while watching YouTube videos! :)
The funny thing is, I have tried so many of my creations on my son, "E," that he won't even try on my hats anymore. I guess his modeling days are over! Now I have to use a giant baby doll as my model. It's not nearly as cute, but at least it doesn't move around or get mad at me when I shove a cute little hat on it's head. My daughter has been asking me to make her many things; a Princess hat, Princess dancing shoes, and now she has an obsession with Pirates and the movie Hook. I'm sure a skull and crossbones hat is in her near future.
So, drum roll please...here are my latest creations! All of these are available in my Etsy shop.

Buying Handmade
I struggle all the time with how much to charge for my items in my Etsy shop. Sometimes I think, "It's only made out of yarn." and I don't charge enough for it. Etsy and PayPal both charge small fees when someone buys your items, so I have to make sure I'm not getting the short end of the stick. While yarn is fairly inexpensive, the items I make have value. They are born from a little idea in my head, and I'd like to think that they are valuable to someone. Each item takes time and attention, and I wouldn't want to have to stop making these creations. I want them to bring joy to someone.
Buying handmade items is great because you know that what you are getting is somewhat unique, since there aren't 500 more items just like it in a store somewhere. I found this great blog article about all the great reasons to buy handmade, and I highly recommend it.

Giraffe Slippers
I've always loved baby shoes. Even before I had children, I would always see little baby shoes while shopping and comment on how adorable they were. I have a lot of shoes & booties in my Etsy shop because I know how hard it is to find affordable baby shoes. They don't wear them enough to spend $30 on a pair of shoes they won't even be comfortable in. Crocheted slippers & booties are perfect, because they will keep little feet warm while being inexpensive. I also love anything handmade, because they are unique and special.
I am still on the kick of making slippers to match the hats I sell in my shop. Reading the stats on my blog, I know that the most read post of mine is for my Happy Giraffe Hat. Possibly because my son makes such a cute model. :) I knew I had to make slippers to match, so here they are!

Doggy Slippers
I love crocheting baby slippers because they are so easy to make, and totally adorable. Even though I have so many ideas floating through my head of what kind of slippers I could make, I decided to start with slippers that would match some of the hats in my shop. Of course, I made the Sock Monkey Slippers first, since the hat is my best seller. I wanted to make more slippers that boys could wear since I already sell so many Mary Janes for little girls. So, this is what I created:
They turned out exactly how I wanted, and I received many compliments on them. :) If these were ordered for a girl, I would just add little Pink bows above the ears. So simple, and so cute!
